Fast and great service I wasn't aware that they had an upstairs until I arrived there to order my food. Needless to say I ventured up stair while I waited for my meal. I wasn't 100% wowed by the appearance (they might have had a few unruly patrons) it's actually 2 levels up. The 3rd floor where the hookah were being stored smelled really great. The 2 second level need some TLC I don't know what it looked like when it first open due this being my 1st time there but from a fresh eye a bit more upkeep would do wonders.

Food: My jerk shrimp and pasta with well seasoned very spicy as it should be....fresh crisped salad as well as freshly toast and buttered bread. I will be back to try their breakfast menu as the pictures look very enticing.

I've dined here twice and got coffee from here a couple of time with my wife. Attitude came on the side with EVERYTHING.

This past and final attempt at this under-mused eatery I ordered the shrimp and waffles ($16) and a cup of coffee ($1) My mate ordered egg whites, sausage and potatoes (~$10) and a water ($2).

While waiting for the food someone ran to the store to get milk and excitingly presented to the table interrupting the conversation.
(I wasn't asked if I wanted milk or even needed)

The menu: Homemade Buttermilk Belgian Waffle and Watermelon + Daddy's Maple Drizzle

What I got: 6 shrimp fried rather beautifully (1 star ) on top of an attempt to a cinnamon bun flavored waffle with a heavy, VERY sweet creamy sauce. It was HORRIBLE. When I brought it to the attention of the waitress she barely stopped and continued to the next table.

Do yourself a favor for flavor (hehe), keep walking, driving, crawling if you have to and just go to Vonda's Kitchen for authentic soul food!

Came to Sugar Daddy's on Father's Day with my momma and my man for a quick breakfast before we jumped into the days festivities w/ family. I came because I used to support the owner at another business, not food related. Overall, I must say I was quite disappointed in my experience.

The space they have is actually quite cute and has a lot of potential, I know it takes a little while to get decor exactly the way you want it so I excused that and I STILL think the place is adorable. When we walked in we were not greeted by anyone, and it was clear they were understaffed. There was one person in the kitchen and one girl working the entire floor (there are two levels-- she was working both). Because we were not greeted, we walked up to where the register was by the kitchen and then the girl informed us that if we were dining in, we'd have to go upstairs. When we did there was a party of 4 just finishing up and a family of 6 waiting for their food. I figured it would be a while before we were able to eat. But I'm fine with that if the food is good... we'll get there.

Service: once we were addressed by the server she honestly seemed overwhelmed, tired, and just not that friendly. This was going to be my first meal of the day and I'm 6months pregnant so my patience was pretty thin as well to keep it all the way real. She took our orders and forgot my mom's coffee when she brought the drinks (honest mistake). When my mom went down to use the bathroom she just asked someone else (who had finally came) for a cup of coffee and she came upstairs with that and the sugar dispenser. When the server came back upstairs with the other table's food, she actually said to my mom "I'm going to have to take that back downstairs because we only have one." Y'all. They only had ONE sugar dispenser. And she stood there the whole time my mom was trying to get her coffee right. Mad awkward. And during the course of us eating, someone from another table came over to borrow the hot sauce so I guess they didn't have many of those either.

Food: I ordered Daddy's Plate- which consisted of grits, eggs w/ broccoli, potatoes, beef bacon and a mini waffle. My plate came a full 20mins before my man's did. He ordered chicken & waffles. My mom was so turned off she ordered nothing but that coffee. My grits were entirely over seasoned. Grits don't need much but they did the MOST. tasted like they added Adobo and there was way too much pepper. I didn't eat them at all. My scrambled eggs were dry, as were the potatoes. I ate the eggs cause I love eggs regardless. Left those potatoes right there on that plate. The beef bacon was delicious. I don't think I've ever had it before. The glaze they put on the waffle was also really good. My only issue with the waffle was that is was slightly undone in certain parts and I didn't like that. Overall I was not happy with my plate so I wouldn't order that again. My man had the chicken and waffles and his food looked really good, and he ate it all.

I would really like to give this place another try so I may comeback again on a different day and try the chicken and waffles. I'll also probably order to go and eat in the comfort of my own home.

After months of wanting to try here this spot, I finally did and am so pleased I did! The spot is fairly small (maybe 5-6 tables) but easily located on Halsey Street right by Rutgers-Newark. Great menu options from brunch classics including grits to lunch foods like burgers and mac n cheese to some fusion choices like General Tso's. I had to get back to work so I had to get my order to go. It was a bit of a lengthy wait for take out but SO worth it!

I opted to go for the Chicken&Waffles ($14.50) which were amazing. The waffles had tons of flavor and were soft, flaky, everything a waffle should be. For the fried chicken - I got a wing and a breast. I am not a huge wing fan so I mainly ate the breast which was well cooked with great flavor from the crispy breading. Always a good combo. Highly recommended!
